Tips for Using this Blog

Cześć!

1.  Getting there.

If you are reading this in email, go to the very bottom of the post.  There will be a link to "Gene and Clara's;" click it and there you are.

If you are staring at an empty browser window, please Google "Gene and Clara's."  That helps my stats.

Then you save the bookmark that looks like this:

You can see from the ending that that will always take you to the most recent post.

(To save a link to an individual post, first click on the Title of that post.  Better yet, right-click on it to save it to a new tab.  The web address will include a suffix specifying that post.  So save that one.)

Witaj!  Prosime!

2.  Commenting on a post.

The right sidebar of the webpage starts off with Gene, Clara, and Suzette welcoming visitors to the Marilla kitchen. Below that is a reminder about the "Comments" internal link, placed by Blogger at the bottom of every post, down where the labels are.

Click on "Comments," wait a moment for the text box to come up, and enter your remarks.

You do not have to worry about clicking "Submit" in error, too soon, or with embarrassing typos or anything of that sort.  Blogger sends all comments to me; they only go online when I send them up.  If I saw some goofy thing I would contact you and help you straighten things out.

3.  Subscribing.

Below that is a little "Gadget," as Blogger calls them, for subscribing to receive posts by email.

Just below Stanczyk is the Gadget for signing up for RSS feeds for posts or for comments.

4.  Searching the site and running an ad-blocker.

Next down is the Search Box Gadget, which will be blocked by a good ad blocker.  Disable temporarily your ad blocker and reload the page in order to use the Search utility.

Ghostery is a terrific blocker of ads and trackers.  Thank you, Peter, for setting me up with this!  Download their app - it is a short download - install it, and look around.  You can control what it blocks and what it allows.  You have a little Ghost icon up on the browser control bar; you can click it and do any little job quickly without hunting around for some saved link.

The blog looks very much better without ads.

5.  Links.

Blogger's "Links" gadget lets me list links handy to everyone on the sidebar.  They're mostly dictionaries, ancestry sites, and links to the ancestral home-movies that Tye has put up so far on his YouTube channel.  Thanks, Tye!

Please send me any links you think should be added to that little collection.

6.  Blog Archive.

Just below the lines from Spenser is the "Blog Archive."  The lists are nested and collapsed, so click on those little grey triangles to expand them.  You can go back in time and read the whole thing if you are feeling crazy enough.

7.  Browsing posts by "Label."

Finally, below the gadget "Happening Recently Enough in Argyle, New York," currently featuring John Wayne, is the "Labels" list.

I put labels on every post, see?  You can click on a label in that list, and your browser will show every post bearing that label.

The hope is that this will help people get all the goodie out of the blog.  Please contact me if you have any problems.

Please contact me with any photos or stories from your branch of the family if you would like me to put them up.

Do zobaczenia!    Julia
